Meet Dr. Rudden

Longmont, CO Audiologist

“When I think about all the things I have seen and experienced over the years, I have been truly blessed to call my “life’s work” serving people with hearing loss and helping them reconnect to the sounds that mean the most to them. I have also had the opportunity to serve other communities in underserved countries such as India, Guyana, Costa Rica, Peru, and St. Lucia. These mission experiences of service have granted me the opportunity to change lives by giving the gift of hearing. It is as simple as that.

I have witnessed this magic with people of all ages: babies hearing their mother’s voices for the first time, grandparents hearing their grandchildren, children hearing their own voices and realizing they can make sounds. It’s incredible to witness, and I’ve been blessed to share these moments.

I look forward to helping you reconnect to the sounds that are critical, vital and memorable to you! Through the Longmont Hearing and Tinnitus Center, we can change lives by helping you hear for life.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Medicare requires that you obtain a doctor’s referral before seeing an audiologist. Most other insurances do not require a referral. You may contact your insurance directly to clarify whether or not a referral is needed. If your insurance requires a referral and you do not obtain one or decide not to, you have the option to pay out-of-pocket for services.

It is easy to become confused about which expert you are visiting, but there are significant variations between these professions. An audiologist is someone who has a four-year doctoral degree in the function and anatomy of hearing. Audiologists also complete a supervised externship before the professional may get national certification and state licensing. After licensing, they participate in continued education to provide current, evidence-based gold-standard care. Audiologists can evaluate, diagnose, and treat a broad spectrum of hearing and balance issues. An audiologist may be more appropriate for more medically related services such as balance difficulties, earwax impactions, and hearing loss caused by noise exposure.

A hearing aid specialist/hearing aid dispenser is someone who takes a 3-6 certification course in order to dispense hearing aids. These individuals typically have no medical background. They focus on fitting on a product to bring what appears an immediate solution to hearing loss, while audiologists evaluate and treat the auditory system as a whole.

Audiologists are doctoral-level healthcare providers who evaluate, diagnose and treat disorders related to hearing and balance. They are equipped to address earwax impactions, hearing loss, tinnitus, vertigo, noise exposure and hearing preservation.

Hearing aids are available in different styles, sizes and technology levels. An audiologist will take into consideration the type and degree of hearing loss you have, along with your listening needs and goals to find the specific hearing solution uniquely tailored to you.

Tinnitus is usually caused by an underlying medical condition, such as an age- or noise-related hearing loss, an ear injury, or a problem with the circulatory system. For a lot of people, tinnitus may improve by treating the underlying cause or providing treatments that reduce or mask the noise.

The goal in tinnitus treatment is to reduce your awareness of and attention to the tinnitus. Since it is most noticeable in quiet settings, a sound generator may be used to mask tinnitus noise. Tinnitus with hearing loss may be managed with hearing aids that have built-in tinnitus maskers. An electric fan, soft music, or low-volume radio static may also provide temporary relief. Since tinnitus is a neurophysiologic response (happening in your brain, not in your ears), tinnitus retraining therapy may also be beneficial. TRT involves a combination of counseling and sound therapy. If you or a loved one is experiencing tinnitus that affects your ability to function on a daily basis, a tinnitus evaluation at our clinic can help us determine a course of treatment for you.

Hearing loss can affect people of all ages and can be caused by various factors. The three basic categories of hearing loss include sensorineural hearing loss, conductive hearing loss, and mixed hearing loss. Each person has a unique hearing experience, hence, there is no generic solution for hearing loss. A comprehensive assessment done by an audiologist is the first step in treating or managing hearing loss.

The price of hearing aids varies based on your unique hearing loss and lifestyle. There are different technology levels, styles, and capabilities for each device. The best range we can give you would be from $700 up to about $2500 per device and everything in between. There may be professional fees for the fitting and orientation as well as the verification measurements but those fees are the same regardless of the product that you select. An audiologist is the best choice to help you select the hearing aid that is best for you.

We are in network with most major providers. You are welcome to call the customer phone number on the back of your card to verify if we are in network with your specific plan. We are unable to bill Medicaid or Kaiser. Some insurance plans do have coverage for hearing aids and related services. We are happy to help look up your benefits for you after a hearing test, or you can call the number on the back of your insurance card.
