Joe Kraus
4th Year Doctoral Student
Born in Tualatin, OR, and brought to Colorado at age six, Joe has a personal connection to helping patients with hearing loss, as he was born with hearing loss himself. His unique perspective on hearing healthcare grants him the ability to see life “on both sides of the chair,” as both patient and professional.
Joe graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with his Bachelor of Audiology and Speech-Language Sciences. He’s currently completing his Doctor of Audiology degree and should be graduating in May 2025.
Joe is our resident jack of all trades! Within our team, his role adapts to the needs of the clinic each day: He completes administrative tasks like checking in patients for appointments and answering the phone and helps with appointments with his expertise and personal knowledge of hearing loss. He’s grateful for a lot of variety in his work and the ability to support individuals looking to improve their hearing health.
Every day presents unique challenges requiring creative solutions, and Joe has no trouble staying engaged! He loves helping his patients regain the freedoms they may have lost, and witnessing the positive transformations in their quality of life is what helps him get out of bed each morning.
Understanding the challenges that hearing difficulties can bring, Joe is committed to fostering growth and empowerment for all his patients and hopes to show them the truly transformative impact of properly fitted amplification on their quality of life.
As a former college baseball player and coach, Joe likes watching any sports to support Denver: the Broncos, Avalanche, Nuggets, and even the Rockies. He most enjoys sharing relaxing moments with his friends and family, as well as his dog, Gus.
Outside the Clinic—Just for Fun
What's your favorite season?
Fall, without question. It’s a stunning time to be in Colorado, with its mild weather and vibrant colors. Fall also marks the height of sports season, with college football, the NFL, basketball, hockey, and the World Series all in full swing.
Who are your favorite musicians?
I have a diverse taste in music. My first concert was James Taylor at Red Rocks, and I’m a fan of timeless classics like the Eagles, Journey, and Tom Petty. While I enjoy modern artists as well, I often find myself returning to music from that era.
What is your favorite food?
Chicken wings, without a doubt! I could eat them for every meal—provided they’re spicy.
Dog or cat?
Definitely dog. I have a one-year-old golden retriever named Gus. While I love all animals and dream of someday having a house full of as many animals as possible, for now I’m content with just Gus.
If you could travel anywhere in the world for free, where would you go?
It’s hard to pick just one place! I’ve always dreamed of visiting the Mediterranean to explore the rich history of ancient Greece. Other destinations on my bucket list include Ireland, Germany, Rome, France, and many more.
What is your favorite sound and why?
There’s nothing quite like the crisp crack of a well-struck baseball with a classic wooden bat. It’s often said that exceptional players make the ball sound different off the bat—a unique and unmistakable sound that baseball enthusiasts, like those who’ve watched Todd Helton take batting practice, can truly appreciate.
